Michael Southam, O.D.
Dr. Southam graduated from South Fremont High School in St. Anthony Idaho where he served as student body president his senior year. He then went on to fulfill a full time two-year LDS humanitarian mission to Vladivostock and Magadan Russia. After returning home, he enrolled at Utah State University in Logan, Utah where he met his wife Katie, served as a College of Science Ambassador, volunteered and taught at the local Red Cross, served at the local Child and Family Support Center as a house parent, and participated as an official translator for the Russian Olympic team during the 2002 winter games.

After receiving his B.A. in biology along with minors in both Russian and chemistry, Dr. Southam enrolled at Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia. During his time as a student at PCO, Dr. Southam was awarded first place in his class for his poster on the ophthalmic manifestations of HIV. Dr. Southam also completed a rotation through the Philadelphia Feinbloom Vision Rehabilitation Center (low vision) with honors and distinction.

In addition to primary care optometry, Dr. Southam’s particular interests and specialties at Black Rock Vision Center include pediatric optometry, vision development/ vision therapy, low vision/vision rehabilitation, and specialty contact lenses. Dr. Southam is certified to treat glaucoma. Dr. Southam is a member of the Nevada Optometric Association, American Optometric Association, and College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) – Dr. Southam is currently working towards his fellowship certification within the COVD. Dr. Southam volunteers with the Lions Club and the Remote Area Medical team to provide vision care to the local underserved population of Northern Nevada.

Dr. Southam’s wife Katie, aka "The Boss," also works at Black Rock Vision Center as manager, book keeper, and the signer of checks. She is the stitch that keeps it all together.

Dr. Southam, Katie, and their two children Carter and Anya, are very happy to be in Reno! Their pastimes include coaching youth sports, biking, hiking, skiing, kayaking, and independent film making.
Shaune Wallace, O.D.
Shaune Wallace, O.D. was born and raised in Canada. He graduated High School with a 4.0 and soon after left Canada to pursue an education in the United States. After graduating magna cume laude at Brigham Youn University, he moved to Fullerton, CA to attend optometry school at Southern California College of Optometry, one of the top rated schools in the nation.

Following graduation, Dr. Wallace moved to St. George, Utah and ran his own practice for almost ten years before selling it and moving to Tucson. Dr. Wallace has moved to Reno excited for the area and opportunities. He has experience with glaucoma, keratoconus and pediatric care. In addition to primary care, Dr. Wallace is certified in Paragon CRT. This gives him the ability to treat myopia with special lenses designed to offer freedom from daytime contacts and glasses without the need for surgery.

He is the father of four beautiful children and lives on the south side where he enjoys biking and outdoor activities. He spends ample time on his 3D printer making gadgets and home improvement projects. The 3D printer is a great outlet for his love to tinker and experiment. He is happy to be a part of the Black Rock Vision Center family and looks forward to being a part of the quality and service for which this practice is known.
